Tracy's Poem to Dad (read out at his Funeral)
Created by Natalie 8 years ago
Our Dad
D is for Daddy, a very special one
Gentle, kind and generous, loving,
wonderful and fun.
A is for amazing, a man who loved his food
Donuts, liquorice and roast potatoes…would all
put him in a good mood!
D is for Dad dancing, he was especially good
at that
Tickles, rough and tumble and sitting on
his lap.
D is for Donald duck impressions, his
special party trick
As well as wiggling his ears, as you know
they were rather big!
Y is for “You’re in trouble”, it’s a look he
sometimes had!
Balanced out with love and guidance, it
wasn’t often that he got mad!
G is for Grandad with 5 Grandchildren on
whom he doted
“Let me cross your hand with silver”, was
often something that he quoted.
R is for rules, at all our family dinners
No laughing or smacking lips allowed, he
made sure we had good manners.
A is for a little bet, he did enjoy the
occasional flutter
Once he won £20 quid on a scratchcard,
bought wine and chocolate and said “Don’t tell your Mother”!
N is for a little bit naughty, he was cheeky
and always up for a laugh
Chatting up pretty ladies, or popping up
his club for a pint and a half!
D is for Double Dawsons, a strong gin and
tonic he drank
Now I love a gin and tonic, for that I have
my Dad to thank!
A is for a fatherly teacher, his patience
never ceased to amaze
Riding bikes, playing clarinet or whatever
was our latest craze.
D is for determined, stubborn sometimes is
the word
If we needed to know something he would
make sure he was heard!
And now that man who loved us, and wrapped
us in his arms so strong
Has gone where we can't reach him, but our
love for him lives on.
We’ll keep his memory alive, and honour all
that he believed,
And just feel so very grateful, for all his
love that we received.
